Bill Nye and Ken Ham’s Upcoming Debate: Could it Lead to Conversion?

I believe the Bible is true. It is God’s Word. I believe God created the world in six days.

I have been to Answers in Genesis Creation Museum. I have heard Ken Ham speak and have often used the resources on his ministry’s website.

On February 4, Mr. Ham will debate Bill Nye, the Science Guy. The topic for the debate is “Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?” The debate will take place at Answers in Genesis 900 seat Legacy Hall.

My kids have watched Bill Nye’s videos. They are great! He does a fantastic job of making science fun. (Every time I think of him, I hear in my brain, a musical line from a video about plankton (small organisms eaten by fish): “Pass the plankton, please.” My Nye is a good and very creative communicator.

He’s also an agnostic.

Commenting about the upcoming debate, he said, “Well I don’t think I’m gonna win Mr. Ham over, anymore than Mr. Ham thinks he’s going to win me over.” (source)

Regardless of who wins the debate, my concern is the soul of Bill Nye. I don’t want him to miss heaven and suffer a Christ-less eternity in hell.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “…God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance.” (Romans 2:4)

Wouldn’t it be great if Mr. Nye is so affected by the kindness and love of the staff of Answers in Genesis that he begins to examine the claims of Christ? Wouldn’t it be great if he started investigating the veracity of the Resurrection of Jesus? Wouldn’t it be great if God’s kindness working through His people led the Science Guy to a place of repentance and faith?

That’s what we should pray for: that Jesus wins the debate!
