What’s Your Verse of the Day?

One spiritual discipline that is a tremendous help in practicing the presence of God throughout the day is picking one verse from your morning quiet time and “carry it with you”. It is a practice that has been very helpful in my life. After all, the Bible never tells us to have a quiet time every day, but it does teach us to abide in Jesus (John 15:4). As His word abides in our heart, we abide in Him.

So when you take a break at work, during your lunch time, whenever you have a free moment, set your mind on the Lord. Read your verse of the day. You can write it on a card and carry it with you, send a text to yourself in the morning and retrieve it throughout the day, email it to yourself, or highlight it in your bible and mark the page. Do whatever it takes to keep your mind on the Lord. It will help you control your thoughts and keep your mind off of worldly things. It will help you have the heart of Jesus.

So pick a verse and carry it with you. Here’s the one that I am using today: “I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.” Leviticus 26:12

Prayer: Oh God, walk among us today. Walk in my family; walk in our church; walk in my life. Walk in the depths of my soul. Help us to abide in You, hiding Your Word in our hearts.
