The REAL Noah

What can we learn from Noah? Not the movie, but the man. The account of his life is recorded in Genesis 6-9.

This post is not a review of the film. If you’d like to read reviews, you can read this or this or listen to this.

When it comes to the Bible, I am always interested in the question, “What can I learn?” or “What is the lesson?” or “How is my life to be different because of what I am reading, listening, or watching?” It’s a question about application. We can rant or rave or debate and dialogue. But at the end of the day, where is the value?

Not too long ago, I shared a message at our church about the life of Noah. It’s called “Finding Grace.” You can listen to it here.

In case you don’t have the time to listen to it, which I totally understand, here’s the application from Noah’s life: because God is gracious, we can trust Him.

Here’s the outline for that message:

  1. We can trust Him even though we live in a wicked world. (Genesis 6:1-7, 11-13)
  2. We can trust Him even when it takes a long time. (Genesis 6:13-22)
  3. We can trust Him through the storm. (Genesis 7)
  4. We can trust Him to begin a new work. (Genesis 8:1-9:17)
  5. We can trust Him even when we can’t trust ourselves. (Genesis 9:20-29)

I wrote a post about this here, but in light of the recent movie, it thought it would be helpful to consider it again.
