The Cleansing Power of the Gospel of Grace (Session #7: 2015 Calvary Chapel Pastors Conference)

Pastor Pete Nelson wrapped up the conference by speaking about humility and our security in Christ as a result of the gospel.

John 13:1-17

Jesus served them in spite of who He was

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less” (C.S. Lewis)

Being a pastor (or a pastor’s wife) is the most vulnerable position on the planet.

In John 13, Jesus is being vulnerable – and it’s a blessing.

If you are insecure, being vulnerable is torment.

Pastors need the gospel. As we go thorough ministry we need to keep reconnecting to the implications of the gospel.

We are validated by the gospel.

Justification….it is the sharp edge of the gospel.

It is our covering.

We try to cover ourselves with our performance, etc…

It is our validation.

We get jobs and acceptance into institutions because of our experience and performance.

That’s not the way it is in the kingdom.

In Heaven, it is already settled who we are.

We need to let Jesus serve us and make us secure in Him alone.

Deep inside, are we secure in Christ alone?

Jesus served them in spite of what He was going through.

Jesus is present. We need to live in the present, not the future.

“Wherever you are be all there.” Gene Elliot

Jesus served them in spite of who they were.

The servant leader administers the gospel to the hurt and dirty.

The only way to build he kingdom of God is to lead like Jesus – a servant. This is God’s model.
