Five Things to Do to Prepare for the End of the World

We also know that in the last days perilous times will come. Here’s what the Apostle Paul said this time would be like:

I recently read a headline about the end of the world. It stated that February 22, 2014, according to Norse legend, will mark the end of the world.

Here we go again. Seems that this happens every so often. The Bible says, however, that no man knows the day or the hour. (See Matthew 24:36.)

One thing we do know is that the world will end. 1 Peter 4:7 tells us that the end of all things is at hand.

We also know that in the last days perilous times will come. Here’s what the Apostle Paul said this time would be like:

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

2 Timothy 3:1-5

Considering that we are 2000 years closer to the end of the world than Peter was, how should we live; what should we do? Pool our money together, buy some farm land, grow our own food, stock pile ammo, and have rapture practice every day at noon?

So the end will come; and it will be marked by perilous times.

No.

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

1 Peter 4:7-11

In this passage, Peter mentions five things we should do since the end of the world is at hand.

  1. Be serious. That means to be sober-minded. In other words, have self-control. Control your passions.
  2. Pray. Don’t read a book about prayer, go to a conference about prayer, or wonder why you don’t pray more. Just pray. Get to it. Pray.
  3. Love. Don’t expose other people’s sins. Stop gossiping. Love your brothers and sisters in Christ.
  4. Be hospitable. When was the last time you opened your home up to someone? Be welcoming. Share your life.
  5. Serve. God’s given you a gift. Are you using it to serve Him?

If we are living like that, we have nothing to fear. Maranatha!
