Colossians 3:1-2 teaches “…set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

This is not just something we should do once a day, but rather all the time.

If you have been walking with Jesus for very long, you hopefully have heard about the importance of having a Quiet Time. (I wrote about how to have a great quiet time here)

Whether you do your quiet time in the morning, at night, during lunch, or just “whenever you have the time”, I want to suggest you consider adding to your day a “mini quiet time.”

Perhaps you have not yet developed the habit of quiet time, or you struggle to keep it going. Start practicing a mini quiet time.

What is a mini quiet time?

A mini quiet time is a short period of time, often less than five minutes, that you completely and whole-heartedly, devote to spending with Jesus. It is not a replacement for a quiet time, but it is something that we can do several hours before or after we have our daily devotional.

A mini quiet time can be used for prayer, worship, Scripture memory, Bible reading, or just thinking about our great God. But don’t try to do too much.

The key here really is just to be very intentional and very focused on Jesus. We want to set our heart and mind completely on the Lord for five minutes, or even just 1, 2, or 3 minutes.

I would suggest picking a time during the day that you could worship. Grab your device and some headphones, find a quiet place, and put on your favourite worship song. When the song is over, jump back into your day.

D. Martin Lloyd Jones wrote, “This is the fundamental thing, the most serious thing of all, that we are always in the presence of God.” I hope that this idea of a mini quiet time will help you to practice the presence of God.
