The Importance of Faithfulness

Faithfulness is the name of the game.

I read this today by the famed British preacher Charles Spurgeon:

It is better to be faithful in the infant-school than to be unfaithful in a noble class of young men. Better to be faithful in a hamlet over two or three score of people, than to be unfaithful in a great-city parish, with thousands perishing in consequence. Better to be faithful in a cottage meeting, speaking of Christ crucified to half-a hundred villagers, than to be unfaithful in a great building where thousands congregate.

These words reminded me of dear brothers in the ministry who have stumbled and fallen. They, to a certain degree, lapsed in faithfulness. And while God is gracious and forgiving, there is a price to pay and consequences to endure.

Whatever God is calling you to do, do it with all your heart — and keep doing it. Be faithful to Him. Keep your eyes off other people’s calling. God has equipped you for your calling. Take heed to it and run with perseverance the race marked out for you – not the race marked out for someone else.

If you are looking at the someone else’s calling, you will fail to see the grandeur of your own.

Make it your goal to hear these words when you enter eternity, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23)
